Yowza, I though my ink cartridges were expensive at $25! We need to get some more ink soon (our printer has the annoying flashing light and messages every time we go to print something), so I'll definitely check out this site. Thanks for sharing!

Felicia,

Great idea! I'll start looking around and containers I can save for storage. I'll probably have to go out and buy a bucket or something to mix the soap in though.

Hey Tiffany,

We happened to have 5 gallon containers that we bought from Home Depot for home improvement projects. They don't have lids but that's okay. I ended up pouring the liquid mixture into smaller containers. It's a lot easier to handle the detergent that way.

I use old juice jars, pickle jars and whatever else I have in my recycle bin. ;)

Thank you for sharing these recipes. I'm going to give these a try. I developed eczema a few years ago and had to switch my laundry detergent brand to get one that is free of dyes and perfumes. While this has helped my eczema, it has cost me a little more money since I can't shop for deals or use coupons for other brands.

Where do you recommend getting a 5 gallon container from? I imagine that I'd need a container with a lid, since I suspect the soap could dry out. Is that a correct assumption?

There are a little under 10 dollar stores within a mile of my apartment (oh the joys of living in the city). I used to have a similar problem going to those stores and just loading up the cart with all kinds of random crap. I've gotten much better now and only go for specific purchases that I know will be super cheap (toothbrushes, toilet paper, zip lock bags, soap, cleaning products, etc).

When I was in high school, my friends and I had a similar tradition where we went to the dollar star and bought all kinds of random gifts that coincided with inside jokes, etc. Those are some of the gifts and memories that I cherish the most from that time.
