A Little Background
I am always cold and I live in an area where winter cold can be brutal at times.
A Little More Background
I work from home and because I’m always cold and I work from home, I tend to turn the heat up to keep my fingers warm so I can work. Heating oil is expensive, but it’s not fun being cold.
The Solution
While at the chiropractor’s office my hubby saw an advertisement in a magazine for a Selk Bag (we now affectionately call it a hag bag). The Selk Bag is basically a walking sleeping bag. It’s cut so that you wear it like a snow suit. Depending on your needs, you can get a Selk Bag that will keep you warm in sub zero temperatures.
Since I’m not thinking of sleeping in the yard during the winter, he opted for the light weight bag.
Imagine my surprise when I opened my Christmas gift to find this huge black thing. I couldn’t figure out what it was until I unfolded it completely. I’ve got to say, I think it’s the best gift I have ever received.
The Selk Bag is comfortable and allows me to sit in the same room with the rest of my family without shivering. My hands are warm (now I can touch my family without them screaming from my icy touch) and I’m mobile.
The Disadvantage
Buy the right size. I’m 5’8” and I believe a medium would have fit me perfectly (Medium fits folks 5’7” to 5’9”). Unfortunately, hubby (who loves to do things in a big way) purchased a Large which fits individuals 5’11” to 6’3” so going up and down the stairs is quite a chore, but aside from that, I give the Selk Bag two thumbs up.
Economical Solution
Now, when the kiddies are at school and the hubby is at work, I can keep the indoor temperature at a cool 62 degrees and walk around the house warm and toasty. What a money saver!
If you are anything like me and are always asking the question “Is it cold in here or is it just me?” then the Selk Bag is the way to go.
If something is good, share it. If it’s really good, share it and tell the manufacturer.
Being the bargain hunter that I am, I love it when I come across quality at an economical product. As any mom understands, getting the kids out in the morning can be one of the busiest times of the day. With getting everyone up, dressed, lunches prepared in time to make the morning school bus, it takes great organization skills, prodding, pleading and occasionally a little yelling to get the task done.
Mom’s Helper
I came across an odd mom’s helper while in the store the other day (quite by accident).
Wait, let me back up and start from the beginning. I wrap my daughter’s sandwiches for lunch in clear plastic wrap. I’ve tried just about every clear plastic wrap on the market. After a while I just assumed that you were supposed to fight to get the wrap off of its cardboard roll and fight even more to rip it off using the serrated edges on the box. During all of the fighting and tussling, the box for the plastic wrap would get crushed.
Accidental Clear Wrap Purchase
While in Stop & Shop, I saw a brand called Guaranteed Value which cost about 50% of what the name brand cost. I figured, “Why not give it a try, it can’t be any worse than Glad.” So I chucked it in my cart and continued shopping.
Back to the Economical Busy Mom
During one of the usual early morning get the kids off to school routines I was pleasantly surprised when I went to wrap my daughter’s sandwich. I reached in the drawer, pulled out the clear wrap, mindlessly tore off the sheet of plastic, wrapped the sandwich, put the wrap back in the drawer and then stopped. I stood there in amazement. I had to open the drawer and look at the plastic wrap.
I didn’t have to tussle, fight or swear at it. It was amazing. One small portion of my morning went off without a hitch. That was my Calgon moment (only old timers like me know about the Calgon moment – there was an old commercial “Calgon, take me away!”).
Hubby Joins the Band Wagon
I hadn’t shared my Calgon moment with my hubby, but when I heard him exclaim “Oh Man!” I knew something was up. He was in the kitchen wrapping half of his left over sandwich and apparently used the plastic wrap. He, too, was amazed at how easily he was able to pull it from the roll, cut it on the serrated edge and wrap his sandwich.
Sharing and Telling
So, to do my part, I’m sharing my Guaranteed Value find with you. I’m not sure if the plastic wrap is distributed in grocery stores other than Stop & Shop, but if they are, I recommend you try it.
Because I was so impressed with the product, I wrote the manufacturer and thanked them for creating a product that does what it’s supposed to do. There are so many products on the market that just don’t live up to their advertising.
As a result of thanking the manufacturer, they thanked me. They sent me two $2.00 coupons for Stop & Shop and also sent a gift of two boxes of Guaranteed Value plastic wrap.
So, for the time it took to write the letter and the cost of a stamp, I earned $4 and two gifts. Not too shabby.
